What a dental crown does

A dental crown covers the entire visible part of a tooth. Crowns are custom-made to protect teeth weakened by deep decay or cavities, or after root canal therapy. A crown can hold a cracked or broken tooth together, or rebuild the length and appearance of a worn tooth. Crowns are also used to cover dental implants and to support bridges and dentures.

Partial crowns: inlays and onlays

Caring for your crown

Brush and floss daily to prevent cavities and gum disease around your crown. Avoid clenching, grinding or biting down on hard objects, which can crack it. If you grind at night, ask us about a night guard. Keep up with your exams and professional cleanings every six months to keep your restorations in great shape.
