Starting children early with regular exams and care can mean a lifetime of better oral health. From your child’s first tooth, we can help build eating and hygiene habits that protect against early tooth decay, as well as alignment and gum problems later in life.

Fluoride treatments
Research shows fluoride helps prevent cavities in children and adults in at least two ways:
- It strengthens tooth enamel against the acids formed by bacteria and sugar
- It reduces the amount of bacteria on the tooth surface
Most U.S. public water systems are fluoridated, but bottled water, home filtration systems and private wells may not be. Too little fluoride during a child’s formative years can contribute to tooth decay.
Topical fluoride from toothpaste and mouth rinses helps. If you’re concerned your child isn’t getting enough, we offer in-office fluoride treatments to make sure every tooth gets the benefit.
Dental sealants
Sealants are a great way to prevent cavities in hard-to-reach areas and on teeth with deep grooves. They’re typically recommended for children between ages 6 and 14, but patients of almost any age can benefit.
Sealants are made from a specially designed dental resin. We paint a thin layer onto the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, where it quickly hardens and bonds to the tooth, sometimes with the help of a curing light. Sealants can last up to a decade, and we check them for wear at every check-up.
