New Patients

Everything you need before your first visit.

Welcome. Here's what to expect at your first visit to Floss City Dental, what to bring, and how we handle scheduling and payment. If anything isn't covered here, ask us and we'll answer.

Your first visit

Your first appointment is a comprehensive exam, so we understand your whole mouth before recommending anything. Dr. Kevin will:

  • Take full-mouth x-rays, both to find current problems and as a baseline for future visits
  • Check the health of your gums
  • Examine your teeth for decay and check the condition of any existing fillings or crowns
  • Examine your head and neck, including the salivary glands and lymph nodes
  • Screen for oral cancer and check your jaw joint (TMJ)
  • Clean and polish your teeth

Then we'll talk through what we found and put together a plan that fits your goals and budget.

No insurance? Our $99 new-patient consultation covers the exam and x-rays (cleanings are scheduled separately), and our membership plan covers ongoing care from $399 a year.

What to bring

  • Your completed patient forms — download them here and fill them in beforehand to save time
  • Your insurance card or policy information
  • A list of your current medications and any medical conditions
  • Any x-rays taken in the last six months, if you have them

Please tell us about your medical conditions and medications. Many health conditions show up in the mouth and affect dental treatment, so it genuinely changes what we recommend.

Scheduling, rescheduling and cancellations

Book online any time, or call us at (469) 929-9370. If you need to move an appointment, please call at least 48 hours ahead and we'll find you another time. There is a $50 fee for last-minute cancellations and missed appointments.

In pain? Call us. We do our best to see dental emergencies within 24 hours.

Bringing your children

  • The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first visit when the first tooth appears, or by the first birthday.
  • Start cleaning your baby's gums with a soft cloth soon after birth, and brush twice daily with a smear of toothpaste once the first tooth arrives. We'll show you how at the first visit.
  • Patients under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at every visit, so we can go through findings and treatment with you both.

Payment and insurance

  • Cash, check or credit card at the time of service
  • Payment plans for larger treatment — we'll work one out with you
  • We accept most PPO dental plans, depending on the policy, and we'll submit your claims for you
  • We don't accept HMO plans, Medicaid/CHIP or Medicare
  • We don't currently offer CareCredit or other third-party financing

With insurance, you pay your estimated portion at the time of service. Without insurance, payment is due at the time of service or as set out in your payment plan — and the membership plan is usually the cheaper route.

Office hours

  • Monday, Wednesday & Thursday: 8:00am – 5:00pm
  • Tuesday: 10:00am – 7:00pm
  • Friday, Saturday & Sunday: closed

We're also closed for New Year's Day, Presidents' Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, and Christmas.
